New Year’s One Word Focus

This year instead of the typical list of New Year resolutions, my family decided to go with choosing one focus word for 2018. My word is now.

Now.

Our family decided to jump on the New Year’s one word focus bandwagon instead of the usual list of New Year’s resolutions. Where you choose a single word to focus on and apply to all that you do instead of getting wrapped up in lists of specific resolutions, surely to disappoint.  And my word is now.

Sooooooo often I find an excuse to put things off, especially when it’s something that only affects me.

I’ll wake up earlier and exercise when I finally get to bed on time.  I’ll be happier when the house is clean, although we know I don’t apologize for it.  We’ll go on more dates when the kids are older.  I’ll do something for ‘me’ when the kids are napping or at bedtime.  I’ll have the tough conversation when the time is right.  I’ll be more patient when I’m not so tired.  I’ll be the best version of me when everyone else doesn’t need me so intensely.  When the socks all match, when the dishes are dry, when the sun is shining, when the tide is low, when the grass is greener…later, maybe later.

Nope.

Now.

What’s your word?

  1. I love the idea of focusing on one word for 2018. My word would be contentment I think. Or patience, I have two little boys who love to give me lots of practice!

    1. Thanks, Jamie! Contentment is an AWESOME one! And when you have kids, you can never have too much patience. That’s actually the word my husband chose! 😉

  2. I didn’t pick a word for this year, but “now” sounds like a great one. All of the other things — lose weight, exercise, etc. can be encompassed by “now.”

    1. Thanks, Michelle. And that was my thought process! Whatever it is,a short term or long term task or goal, when I’m coming up with excuses in my head ‘now’ is the answer!

    1. Thanks, Kim! It seems to be working, at least one week into the new year. 😉 It is certainly a lot them overwhelming than a long list of goals.

  3. I enjoyed reading about your one word. Now is a good one. My one word is ‘action’. To always remember to keep progressing even if the action is not perfect 🙂

  4. Oh, this is a good word. It’s so easy to put things off. The fact is though, that putting them off isn’t really helpful at all. I have had so much fun reading the words that people are focusing on this year! Wishing you all the best in 2018!

    1. Thanks Mary Leigh! I had never heard of this ‘word’ thing until this year. I am excited about it! Cheers to you in 2018!

  5. My one word is Patience. It’s definitely something I struggle with every day when my child is active and on all the time. Sometimes I just wish he’d have a bad day and want to snuggle and read all day. Just once. I’m so tired. 🙂

    1. ‘Patience’ is a great one! Especially when there are kiddos involved. I certainly could use some more of it! Here’s to wishing you a good snuggle day, and some well-deserved rest in 2018!
