Seize the Crazy

Motherhood is a sort of journey through seasons of uncharted territory.

Each season is made up of moments. Moments made up of the kind of mom we choose strive to be, and what the tiny humans God has entrusted us with bring to the table. And as soon as we get comfortable in a season, with a routine, with the stage our child is in, the wind blows or we blink our eyes and the season has changed. No two seasons are alike, and neither is the experience of one mom’s same season compared to another.

What is the same though is that in each season there are things that make it our favorite, and things that we are certain will break us. And when we get to the next season, we will long for moments from the last but at the same time rival at the fact that we made it through. Through 20 weeks of pregnancy induced nausea and vomiting, through the pain of pushing out a tiny human, and through sleepless nights that seemed as if they would never end. Things you can’t forget.

But then in a way you do, because most of us choose to do it all over again.

That is crazy. Motherhood is crazy. Our tiny humans make us crazy, in every sense of the word. Crazy enough that what we remember more than the bad, is usually the good. The baby flutters, the last push, the first smile.

Regardless of what side of the story these season-making-moments fall into, I believe in seizing everything we can from them-the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good because, well, that’s what gets us through the bad. The bad because that is how we learn and grow. And the ugly so that we can learn to laugh instead of cry. Seize them because this is your story. The best one you will ever write.

Seize them so that if you’re lucky enough, someday you can share the good with your babies when they have babies or with a friend that is about to embark on this journey. Seize them so that you can remind yourself that you are a rock-star once you’ve made it through the bad and so that you can be honest with that new mama friend. And seize the ugly so that in another year, you can laugh about it over drinks with your partner or friends.

Seize the moment. Seize the season. Seize Seas the crazy.
